Being a bride in 2017 is tough. When I was planning my wedding it became very easy to compare my wedding to the ones I was seeing on Pinterest. During my wedding planning process, Jared and I were invited to participate in a “styled shoot”. This was a HUGE eye-opener to real weddings vs. Pinterest weddings.
A styled shoot is where a group of wedding vendors come together to create a wedding like a scene or photoshoot. Because this is mainly for photos and the hope of being published in magazines, the vendors have full creativity and don’t have to worry about the brides being happy or staying within a budget. The florists, the venue, the wedding planner are able to pull out all of the stops. They know the more creative it is and the more Pinterest-y it is, the bigger chance they have for it to get picked up by wedding magazines or going viral on Pinterest and the bigger chance they have for getting new clients.
Every vendor is able to go crazy with creativity. This was so interesting to be a part of because when I started truly thinking about it, yes it’s inspiring for brides and gives them tangible inspiration, but it also gives brides an unrealistic view on how weddings should be. Most of these viral pins of weddings aren’t real weddings at all, which definitely puts things into perspective.
So if you are a bride in the planning process I urge you to stay true to you and your budget. Don’t get wrapped up in what you see on Pinterest, Instagram or what your friends are doing. Stay within your means and stay true to yourself!
