Wide leg pants are defintiely trending and it’s a great style for women of all heights to experiment with. However, for shorter women, the wide leg pant can seem daunting, as it can overwhelm your frame and make you look shorter. But, with the right styling, you can make this trend work for you and look fabulous. I’m only 5’2″ so I can defintiely relate to the struggle, but with these tips I have no doubt you’ll be feeling confident in wide leg pants in no time!
How to Wear Wide Leg Pants as a Shorter Woman
Here are some tips for shorter women to wear wide leg pants:
1. Opt for a high-waisted style: High-waisted wide leg pants can elongate your legs, making you look taller. This style sits at the smallest part of your waist, cinching you in and creating a flattering silhouette.
This is my current favorite pair from J.Crew Factory!
2. Pair with a heel: Wearing a heel can make a huge difference when it comes to wearing wide leg pants. Heels give you extra height and also create a streamlined silhouette. Go for a chunky heel or a block heel for stability and comfort.
3. Crop your pants: Cropped wide leg pants are a great option for shorter women. The shortened length shows off your shoes, which can make you look taller, and it also balances the proportions of the pants.
4. Tuck in your top: Tucking in your top helps create a smooth line, making your legs look longer. If you’re wearing a high-waisted wide leg pant, tucking in a blouse, sweater, or even a crop top is a great option.
5. Add a belt: Adding a belt to your wide leg pants can create a visual break, making your legs look longer. A skinny belt is best for this look, as it creates a defined waistline and balances out the wide leg of the pants.
These are some of my favorite recent outfits styling a wide leg pant as a shorter woman!
In conclusion, wide leg pants can be a great style for shorter women if you style them correctly. By following these tips, you can create a look that elongates your legs and balances the proportions of your outfit. So don’t be afraid to give this trend a try, you’ll be amazed at the results.

Thank you! That was great advice. I am 5’1 and am about to hem my black velvet wide leg pants for the holiday. I will go with the ankle length, wear a heel, and tuck in my top!!

You look so cute, stylish, polished and really put together. Beautiful.
Thanks for the advice. I’ve tried on a few wider leg pants/jeans, and they swallowed me up. Now I’ll try again, and hope I’ll look better. I’m so tired of everything I see in the stores either be a skinny jean, or ripped up before one even gets to wear them.
Why in the world do people find wearing ripped up jeans stylish, and why would anyone pay upwards of $200.00+ for such a disaster?
Thank you again!
