House parties are a widespread tradition in the south. If you aren’t familiar with the concept, a wedding house party typically consists of friends or relatives of the bride who isn’t as close to the bride as bridesmaids. Bridal parties can get a little crazy in size nowadays, and a house party is a great way to include special people in your life without having them as a bridesmaid.
I had a total of five bridesmaids and three girls in my house party. Two of the girls were both new close friends who I hadn’t known for as long as some of the girls in the bridal party. The other one was my sister-in-law. By including girls in your house party, this is a great way to avoid any hurt feelings or having an outrageous bridal party size.
Girls in the house party play an integral part of the big day. My house party helped with all the pre-ceremony activities like helping people with gifts, sign the guest book and pass out invitations. During the reception, they helped out pass glow sticks during the exit and helped sneak champagne into our reception for toast.
To keep it simple I asked my house party girls to wear a navy cocktail dress of their choice. This contrasted the light blue seersucker and made them stand out a little more than a typical guest. Just like a bridesmaid, these girls are serving you on your day, so it’s essential to offer them a small token of thanks. I went a got fresh macaroons for each of my girls to show my thanks.
Again, my house party girls were TOTAL lifesavers and were just as important as my bridesmaids.
