The easiest way to look chic in the cold is with a monochromatic winter look and it’s very on-trend right now. I’ve had this coat for years (literally I remember buying it on super sale in 2016) and I’ve also had this sweater for at least two years and just when I was prepping for these photos I thought they would pair well together. And now I’m obsessed! Isn’t that the best when you are staring at your closet and then suddenly get a good idea and it actually works!
Monochromatic Winter Look
This color coat was definitely the “it color” when I purchased it in 2016. A lot of times we save on trendy items knowing they are going to go out of style. I snagged this coat on super sale years ago, and as I saw the color go out of the trend cycle I just couldn’t come to terms with getting rid of it because the shape is classic and it’s really good quality. But I feel like styling it with the same color sweater for a monochromatic look really brings it into today’s trends.
I also wanted to switch up the jeans from how I used style them when I wore this coat back in the day (ahem, skinny jeans). These flare jeans are nice way to dip your toe in the non-skinny jean trend without going too crazy. I think it balanced out the chunkiness of the turtleneck nicely for a very flattering look.
Also since these jeans just graze the ground and are high waisted it makes my legs look super long! You’d never know I’m only 5’2″!
I went with a simple pair of black booties for warmth because it is winter, but also to not distract from the main focus of the outfit. I also tied the black booties in with a simple black purse to make the whole look feel cohesive.
I feel like this look just gave me a revived love for this coat which was something I was considering selling because I was stuck on how to style it.
Sometimes it is worth pulling out those old pieces and trying to find a new way to style them!
Throwback of how I used to wear this coat for some giggles:
Love this pretty blue coat! So gald you didn’t get rid of it! I think a colorful coat is timeless.
