I found THE dress for my big day in a few months. At my alterations place they require 3 appointments. The first appointment is to get a general feel of everything that needs to be done and to pin everything in place. The second fitting is where they have a light stitch in the dress, but are still able to make adjustments and then at the final fitting everything is ready to go and your MOH learns how to bustle the train.
I currently have a lot going on in my life as you can imagine, I am less than 70 days away from my wedding. I showed up to my second fitting on Saturday and as we are waiting in line to sign in my mom asks me, “Did you bring your shoes?” At the moment I realized no, I did not have my shoes. The tailor is about an hour away from where I leave and where my shoes currently resided. I think “ok, it’ll be fine my heels aren’t that tall. I’ll just stand on my toes a little and it will work.”
I sign in and as I am signing in I think “Ok, well maybe I should ask.” I asked the receptionist “I forgot my shoes. Is that the end of the world?” I totally expected her to say “No, it’s not a big deal. This happens ALL the time! Don’t worry about!” Well, she looked right at me and said, “Yes, it is.” I think she could tell I was a little taken back. She followed up with “Unfortunately, this appointment can’t happen without your shoes. We are going to have to reschedule.”
I was sooo mad at myself that I forgot my shoes. So learn from my mistake, DO NOT FORGET YOUR SHOES!
I also highly recommend bringing whatever undergarments you plan on wearing whether that’s underwear, spanx, bra or no bra. This will help the tailor get a good idea of what you are going to look like on your wedding.
Luckily, I was able to get another appointment so it isn’t the end of the world…just a little set back!
