Jared and I took a little weekend getaway to Fort Worth and typically when we go to Fort Worth we stay with my parents so we can bring Beau. This time we stayed at The Kimpton Harper Hotel in downtown and it was hands down the BEST dog-friendly hotel in Fort Worth. Aside from being super pet-friendly, it was also super unique, stunning, and rather affordable! Let’s take a closer look!
The Kimpton Harper Hotel Review
The Kimpton Harper Hotel is right in the heart of downtown Fort Worth (about a block away from the convention center and 2 blocks away from Sundance Square). This hotel is unique because it has character, charm, and also history. This building used to be the historic Farmer’s and Mechanic’s bank before it was converted into the now Harper Hotel.
The rooms were very spacious and almost had an apartment-like feel with a separate living and bedroom space. The furniture also felt homey and comfortable instead of your traditional stuffy hotel furniture. The art and gallery walls really made it feel lived in and elevated. I almost felt like I was staying in an apartment with all the amenities of a hotel.
Hands down though my top three favorite things about The Harper were…
1. The bed: HOLY COW these were the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on…even better than my bed at home!
2. The robes: I am a sucker for a hotel robe and this small detail made the world of a difference! It was so plush and comfortable. Perfect to slip into for a little pre-dinner nap (I know, that what I did).
3. The Bluetooth Speaker in the bedroom: This is such a small detail but something that is often a struggle when traveling. Jared and I always sleep with a sound machine at home, so when traveling we have an app we turn on, but it can be kind of tricky to have it on our phones since the volume and sound quality is different, so by playing through the speaker it was exactly what we needed!
OK, aside from the optimal sleeping experience The Kimpton Harper also had some really other great accommodations.
As I mentioned, the hotel was VERY pet-friendly so much so that I saw at least 10 other parties with dogs checking in or walking around the hotel. The biggest thing I find is some hotels say they are pet-friendly but get you with an outrageous pet deposit or special pet-friendly room options. The Harper has NO pet deposit (no matter the size/weight or number of pets you bring) and even has fun amenities for pups like door hangers alert other hotel guests and staff that your cat, dog, or other beloved pet is in the room and courtesy bags for walking your dog. The pets are welcome everywhere in the hotel and everyone was so excited to see Beau. They are even welcome at the complimentary happy hours that happen every day from 5-6 PM with free beer and wine!
Beau definitely approves of The Kimpton Haper!
As I mentioned the Harper has a full-service bar on the 24th floor with a spacious and comfortable lobby. They have a free happy hour every day but also is a great intimate place to hang out to kick your night off or hang out after dinner! The whole upstairs felt like a picture right out of a West Elm catalog!
Additionally, The Harper has complimentary bikes you can check out to ride around downtown! This was such a unique perk I haven’t seen before and it definitely perfect for navigating downtown!
Il Modo at The Harper
To get the full experience we enjoyed dinner at Il Modo which is located inside The Harper Hotel. We were able to make a night of it and had two best couple friends join us. Not only was the food and drinks AMAZING but the service was incredible. We originally made our reservation for 2 and then expanded it to 4 and then they so graciously accommodate our party of 6 with ease. It’s a very intimate restaurant and would be great for a date night.
Il Modo is known for their freshly made pasta and everyone indulged in the exquisite menu. My favorite thing we ate was probably the Burrata with Cherry apricot mostarda on grilled sourdough. Overall, the noise level was pretty quiet which was perfect for all of us to catch up. In my opinion, there’s nothing worse than a loud restaurant where it’s hard to hear the person beside you!
They also had freshly made pasta hanging on the wall which was super fun but also made for the perfect photo spot! You can also sign up for pasta-making classes at Il Modo.
Il Modo also serves breakfast as well if you want to grab a bit while you’re staying at The Harper!
Final Thoughts
Overall, our experience at The Kimpton Harper hotel was absolutely delightful. From checking in late to the friendly accommodations with Beau to the delicious dinner and optimal sleeping experience it was a 10 out of 10! The Harper opened in June of 2021 so you can now be one of the first people to stay at this hidden gem in Fort Worth and bring your pup!
