If you follow me on Instagram then you already know that before Thanksgiving I went on a hunt around town for the best deal on Christmas trees. It’s saved on my highlights, but spoiler Hobby Lobby ended up being the winner. Since moving into our new home we have a lot more space decorate and a lot tighter budget. Here are few tips and tricks I’ve learned on how to save on Christmas decorations.
How To Save on Christmas Decorations
Shop around!
During my great Christmas tree hunt I went to Wal-Mart, Target, Hobby Lobby and Lowes to make sure I was getting the most bang for my buck. At each store I took a picture of the tree and the price so I could remember when comparing it all. This does take patience and time, but well worth it in the long run.
Scourer through the dollar section at Target.
I actually got these coasters last year in the dollar section and these houses this year. I do pop in several times a week and I am not afraid to make friends with the employees as they are unloading.
Shop at new places!
This year we picked up this beautiful garland at Joann’s for only $12! Originally this garland was $30 but with their 60% off special, it was a great deal. I initially went in for ribbon and had no idea they had as much Christmas decor as they did.
Add your own touch.
It’s always cheaper to add your own lights. The garland above did not come with lights, but after a few strands, it really elevates the look and ties in with the tree. We also bought cheap stockings from Target and then I dropped them off at a local monogram shop in town and added some personalization for very cheap. Or even this simple banner from a local boutique hung on the bar cart, adds a personal whimsical element.
Not Everything Has to Match
Just like clothes you don’t have to have matching everything. These Ralph Lauren napkins came from HomeGoods and I love how to big mistletoe pattern compliments the simple plaid from the plates.
Add in family heirlooms or hand me downs
A big cost saver is incorporating items you already have or things that have been passed down. These plates and glasses from Jared’s are perfect and with the addition of the napkin and complimentary decor, they look brand new!
Ornaments
I use ornaments for everything! Add them in lanterns, bowls, buckets, whatever you want! They are cheap (I buy the plastic ones in bulk) and makes everything look cohesive.
I hope this inspires you to think outside of the box and helps you save a little money this holiday season!
