Since starting a job in the corporate world, my everyday style has changed a little. My previous job didn’t have a dress code so I could roll in leggings and tee or a dress, it really didn’t matter. I prefer having a dress code because it forces me to get up and be put together. I enjoy getting dressed up for work because I feel like it just puts me in a better mood, plus I feel more confident at work and feel like I can be taken seriously.
I had a few workwear pieces in my closet, but really every job I’ve had has been a trendy and casual environment, so I never had a need to stock up on these pieces. Right before I started interviewing, I went shopping and picked a pair of Old Navy Pixie Pants. I had worn these in college during an internship and remembered how much I loved them. I got a basic navy pair and splurged for a gingham pair for summer as well, then later picked up a tropical pair because they were just too fun to resist.
Old Navy Pixie Pants Review
For short girls, I’m 5’2”, these Old Navy Pixie Pants are the perfect length. They hit right below the ankle on me, so they look great with loafers, heels, sandals, pretty much every type of shoe. For tall girls, they’ll probably hit at the perfect length for you as well, likely hitting above or at the ankle (they also make tall specific sizes as well). I just buy the regular sizing for reference.
My favorite thing about Old Navy Pixie Pants is they are super comfortable. The fabric is 95% cotton and 5% spandex, the cotton makes them breathable and easy to move in and the spandex makes them stretchy and easy to wear all day long. Because of the fabric makeup, they don’t wrinkle, so you will look just as good at 5 PM as you do at 8 AM.
Like I mentioned earlier, Pixie Pants come in so many different colors and prints you can literally have a pair for every occasion. With my basic navy pair I like to style them with a traditional button down for work for a professional look and with my printed ones, I’ll either opt for a white button down for work or a graphic tee or tank/blouse for play.
You can transition the Pixie Pants easily from work to play because of the length and fabric, you wear them to church, date night, etc. and not feel like you are wearing your stuffy work slacks.
Both my sister and my mom are teachers and swear by the pixie pants: because of the stretch, they can move freely with the kids and throughout the classroom, while still looking professional.
I also appreciate how low maintenance they are. You don’t have to worry about taking them to the dry cleaners or ironing them. I just throw mine in the wash with a normal load of laundry and dry them like normal as well. You could hang them, but honestly, I just fold them in my dresser with the rest of my jeans and grab them in the morning without ironing them and you could never tell!
Overall, whether you are a teacher, an intern or working professional I would highly recommend investing in some Old Navy Pixie Pants. For only $35 you really can’t go wrong and most of the time you can get them on sale for around $25-30.
What size do you wear for the pixie pants? Do they run a little small or true to size? Do they stretch out after a few hours wear or do they keep their shape?
I wear a size 4 in Pixie Pants! I would say they run true to size. If you are taller I would recommend getting the tall sizes for length. They keep their shape so well and are super comfortable to wear all day long. They also are easy to wash and dry without shrinking!
I wear a size 10. They are true to size. They are so comfortable and classy. I live in the Caribbean and I wear them to work every Friday because they are very sexy for after work parties and dates. I have lots of colours.
Do you wear the regular size or petite size?
Regular!
I just got my first pair of these in the mail but they feel a little stiff. Do they soften up after the first wash?
They do become softer in the wash for sure!
I love this post, and that white blouse with the Navy leaf embroidery! Would you mind sharing the brand?
This blouse was old from Red Dress Boutique! Here is an almost identical one: http://bit.ly/2HH9LPy
This is very helpful! I’m around your height too (5’3″). Do you remember if you were wearing the ankle length or the full length in the pixie pants? I know you’re wearing regular, but it looks like Old Navy has two types of pixies (ankle and full), each which then come in either petite, regular, or tall. Thanks!
I am so glad you found this helpful! They are the ankle-length!
Hello! Everything looks gorgeous on you! I am usually size 6 in H&M. May I know your waistline for reference if that’s okay? I am having a hard time deciding if I should size down to 4.
I would say they run true to size. I normally wear a 4 in Old Navy Pixie Pants and I’m a true 4 other places.
Hello! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these pants! I recently bought them, but have not been able to use them. I was wondering, Do they wash off?
UM I love this, I am going to look for your Instagram ASAP as well -samxseattle
Do they suit curved women with chunky thighs? I only wear jeans because of my shape but they get heavy and stuffy sometimes.
I am a size 20-22 and I love wearing them as a teacher!
I normally wear a size 16 should I size up I am 5’4 and 200 pounds someone told me they tend to run fitted.
