It’s been about 8 months of living in Houston and about 4 months since my last Houston Lately blog. I would like to say that I officially survived my first Houston summer and I think we are *almost* out of hurricane season (but I don’t want to jinx it). In the last few months, Jared and I have continued to explore Houston so I thought I’d share an updated list in Volume 2. We’ve been doing a lot of eating so 99% of this list is food-related!
Overall though we are LOVING Houston though and it already feels like home!
Houston Lately Vol 2
Taco Stand: I discovered this place from a fellow influencer, Patty Tells All, and it is one of our top 3 go-to restaurants and definitely our go-to taco place. We get it delivered, we sit on their adorable patio or we go through the drive-thru. Jared loves their burritos and I love their quesadillas and tacos.
Black Walnut Cafe: This place we stumbled upon one night because I wanted something that felt home-cooked and wasn’t heavy. It has quickly become a favorite and we eat it frequently. We actually had two nights ago for dinner. Seriously, everything I have tried has been good. Jared likes their chicken tender plate because it comes with some unique sauces. I personally love their salmon, turkey black bean chili, and their pot roast! It’s very casual and they have everything on the menu as well as wine and cocktails and delicious baked goods.
Aladdin Mediterranean: I am ashamed to say I’ve never actually stepped in Aladdin because we always get it delivered but it is amazing and fresh Mediterranean food. We love their Chicken Shawarma and I love their garlic dipping sauce and Pita bread.
Paulie’s: This place is right around the corner from us and HIGHLY recommend going on a Friday evening for their Cacio e Pepe special. It’s SO amazing! There’s nothing like fresh homemade pasta.
Egg Haus: This is place is so stinking cute and great to meet girlfriends for breakfast. I actually met Annaleise from Southern Belle in Training here while she was in Houston. Not only is it adorable the food is REALLY good and they have the most delicious non-alcoholic lemonades!
Dandelion Cafe: This was a recommendation of one of Jared’s co-workers and it’s really good. It’s more traditional brunch items, which as a picky eater, I like! It’s just a little hole-in-the-wall place off the beaten path, but really good.
BB Lemon: I met my friend Liza from That Blonde Rebel here for brunch and since then took my in-laws here when they were back. It has the most beautiful patio and the food is REALLY good. It gives me that old-school southern charm. I’d recommend getting a reservation for brunch because it does fill up!
Railway Market: I also found this place on Instagram and Jared and I enjoyed a date night here and LOVED it. It’s a food hall with different local food stalls with everything from burgers to seafood to pho. They also have a coffee shop, a wine bar, local merchants with candles, art, soap, and even boutiques. We loved walking around and enjoying a glass of wine on their porch swings. I believe it’s ever-changing too so it’s always fun to go!
Cidercade: We had a Junior League event here and it was so fun! You pay $10 to get in for unlimited arcade games and then they also have cider. I’m not typically a cider girl but they have some really interesting flavors that I really liked! I believe they are based out of Dallas.
Heights Mercantile: This little shopping area has so many cute places both local and national. Below are a few of my fave.
- Favor the Kind
- Local Foods
- Outdoor Voices
- Several murals for photos too!
Lemon Laine: Located in the Heights Mercantile, this clean beauty and wellness shop is adorable. They have a custom oil bar which my sister and I did and it was really fun to learn more about skincare and oils. It would be great for a girl’s night or bachelorette party.
Forward Salon: At the beginning of summer I got a fresh cut and color and went to the Forward Salon. I saw Alysha and she was absolutely delightful and I felt very comfortable with her and she did an amazing job. Her pricing was also very fair.
The Children’s Museum: Although I don’t have kids I volunteer here through Junior League and it is SO much fun! I even have fun as an adult, but if you have kids you need to take them here!
Alto: Alto has been the only ride-sharing service we’ve used and it’s truly premium! We most recently got an Alto ride to the Astros game and their vehicles are all the same with clear branding and all of their drivers have gone through extensive training as well as background checks. Additionally, their customer service is amazing with complimentary water bottles, phone chargers, and umbrellas if needed.

Golden Thread: Lastly, Golden Thread just opened their first-ever retail space and I attended the grand opening last night. You definitely have to check out their new space! It’s absolutely stunning and Jenn the owner is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. Read more about her here!
