I’m sure many of you guys are like me and are missing your friends and family DEARLY during this time. It’s really forced me to get creative when it comes to connecting with my friends and making sure I’m still getting some good quality time with the people I love.
I’ve decided to round up some of my favorite ways to stay connected that I’ve been able to implement into my own life while we all wait this out! I’ve included a variety so you can do what makes you feel comfortable and safe while still getting to see your people. Here are 4 ways to stay connected to loved ones while in quarantine.
4 Ways to Stay Connected with Friends During Quarantine
1. Video Chats
I don’t know about you but I am so thankful for technology during this time! Apps like Zoom, HouseParty, or even Facetime can help connect you to anyone at any time. If you’re missing happy hours, book club, bible study, or just catching up with your girlfriends, video chats are good for it all.
I’ve seen people do spa days, brunches, and even a scrapbooking party on Zoom. I just recently threw my best friend a virtual bachelorette party, which you can read more about here. The point is, there are endless possibilities and until we can see our pals out in the real world, this is a great alternative.
2. Social Distancing Outdoor Time
If you’re like me and spend a lot of your day in meetings via video chat, you may want to get some fresh air for a change. A lot of states are beginning to lift stay at home orders and some states (Arkansas) never had one. Obviously, if you’re not comfortable going outside or seeing other people, please don’t! Only do what makes you feel safe. However, if you are looking to see some friends in real life, social distancing is a great way to do so.
Take your dogs on a walk six feet apart! You can catch up while getting exercise and your puppies will be happy. I also love the idea of meeting in a central location with some lawn chairs and some food and sitting far apart and just catching up with friends. I’ve even picniced a few time in the recent weeks! You don’t have to be super close to anyone but you can still have that much needed friend time. The most important thing is that you can see your people and still be safe.
3. Shopping for Good
So many businesses are doing everything they can to give back to their communities during this crazy time. You don’t even have to leave the house! Use your dollars to support virtually– shop for some goodies for you and give back to your community at the same time. If you missed yesterday’s blog post, I’m hosting a virtual charity event with Kendra Scott through the end of today (5/12). Basically, 20% of all purchases made with the code GIVEBACK7821 will go to the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. Definitely grab some of your girlfriends for a happy hour Zoom call and shop shop shop! It’s such a great cause and a great way to connect with our community, too.
The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank is on the front lines during this pandemic and helping people in our community that are struggling to make ends meet and working to ensure that they have food on their tables. It’s always important to give back to your community, but especially now when so many people have been effected by COVID-19, so this is an excellent way to do that.
4. Sending Cards
I think this is such a great idea! I absolutely LOVE snail mail and being trapped in our homes is a great way to send some happy mail to our friends and family! I’ve had friends send me regular cards but I’ve also received quarantine cards similar to Christmas cards. I love the idea of sending a funny card out with your family commemorating this INSANE time!
I think writing some words of encouragement or a letter telling someone how much they mean to you is one of the best things you can do for people during this time. A lot of people are feeling really down and are worried about all of the unknowns and you have no idea how much your words can help people feel uplifted and loved!
