Over the past few weeks, I have been testing some products from Physicians Formula and I am so excited to share my thoughts. Y’all know I am a drugstore girl through and through so the more wins I can find at the drugstore the better! Without further ado here are the best and worst of Physicians Formula.
The Best and Worst of Physicians Formula
When I think of Physicians Formula I instantly think of high-quality bronzers that’s definitely what they are known for and while I agree their bronzers are top notch I definitely found some hidden gems, but let’s kick things off with the worst of Physicians Formula before we get into the best.
The Worst
Rose All Day Mascara
I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to mascara. I like a bold dramatic lash and it’s no surprise that Loreal’s Lash Paradise is my holy grail mascara. I was excited to try this one just because I thought maybe there could be better out there. Unfortunately, this mascara just fell flat. It gives a super natural look so if you love that you will love this. For me, I found it hard to layer and really make a bold lash. It was very average and the wand was just ok. It does have a more traditional wand but the formula was very wet and I just couldn’t work with it the way I wanted to.
Murumuru Butter Eyeshadow Pallet in Sultry Nights
Because I love Physicians Formula’s bronzer I thought their eyeshadows would knock it out of the park. Unfortunately, they were extremely dusty and not as pigmented as I would have hoped. To be honest, it’s not horrible I just had higher expectations. I think most shadows you can make work but this one is difficult to blend and get a flawless high pigment look.
If you are looking for something similar I would recommend the Rimmel Magnif’eyes Eye Palette, Nude Edition. This is a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked palette and is great quality.
Organic Wear Silk Foundation Elixir
This foundation claims it’s “An ultra-nourishing, ultra-fluid, weightless, organic Foundation Elixir that improves the appearance of skin tone and texture while delivering a sheer-to-buildable coverage.” This foundation does just that but it’s not for me. If I am going to take the time to put on foundation I want it to cover at least some imperfections. This is extremely sheer lightweight coverage. It’s not horrible it’s just not for me.
Natural Defense Sheer Line Of Defense Foundation SPF 30
I didn’t mind this foundation at first but it didn’t wear great on me. I felt like a ball of grease after a few hours. The coloring was also not right for me but that’s user error, not the foundation’s fault. This also has a very strong fragrance that I had a really hard time getting past. Lastly, it has similar sheer coverage to the Elixir, I just like medium to high coverage foundations to really have a full-face look.
If you are looking for a good drugstore foundation here are my faves.
The Best
Refreshmint Cucumber Bamboo Eye De-Puffer
This product is not only a fave from Physicians Formula but a drugstore fave overall. This de-puffer is an exact dupe for the Tula eye balm at a third of the price. I apply this after my moisturizer before my primer and it instantly make me look more awake. I am not a morning person so sometimes my eyes get really swollen if I haven’t slept enough. This product is truly amazing.
Shade Adjusters
The Shade Adjusters from Physicians Formula feel like a hidden gem to me. I never hear anyone talking about them but they are SO good. You get both the light and dark Shade Adjusters in a pack and they are perfect for adding to any foundation to adjust it to match your skin perfectly. So if you are bad at picking out shades or you tend to vary in skin tones often these are perfect. I just add a few drops to the back of my hand and mix my foundation in with it and apply. I find that it doesn’t change the formula but only changes the color. I honestly think every girl needs these in her stash.
Rose Kiss All Day Lip Color
I actually have three shades of these and wear them frequently even under my masks. They are super comfortable to wear and last for a good while. They apply very similarly to a chapstick and are very creamy. I have worn them both on their own and layered on top of a liner and under a gloss. They are very pigmented and all three colors I have are very flattering. The only downside is you do have to sharpen them manually when they get low.
Murumuru Butter Glow Face Palette
I really really really like this palette, as you can tell it’s well-loved. I use this palette almost every day. The bronzer is the perfect shade and is so easy to blend and apply. The blush is also a very nice shade and has an ever so slight shimmer to it. Now obviously the highlighter wasn’t for me. If you remember I was dealing with some weird small bumps that popped up around my eyes and I really think it was due to this highlighter. The highlighter is more of a putty texture so initially, I was using a brush but then realized my fingers would be better. Eventually, the highlight was so soft that the whole pan fell out. It doesn’t bother me because I stopped using it after my reaction but might be a downer for you.
Butter Collection x Weylie Hoang Palette
This palette is truly the best bang for your buck, at only $15 for 6 shades this is a great buy. The palette includes 2 highlighters, 2 bronzers, and 2 blushes. All of these shades are so pretty and very easy to blend and apply. This is totally a great dupe for the Benefit cheek palette.
It can be difficult deciphering what is good and what is bad at the drugstore so I hope you found this roundup helpful!
