Jared and I have been married for almost a year! Wow! We’re heading to Charleston to celebrate our anniversary this year and I’m so excited. I plan to share my full thoughts on our first year of marriage once he hit that mark, but for now, I wanted to share one thing that makes our relationship special.
Everyone told us our first year of marriage would be tough, but honestly, it hasn’t been bad at all. I think a big portion of this is because we’ve been together since 2011. Since we know almost everything about each other our transition of dating to marriage wasn’t too difficult.
I went to a VERY small VERY conservative Baptist University. Ring by Spring was 100% a thing. Girls were hunting for a boyfriend, so they could be engaged by Spring and married by Summer. It’s easy to get wrapped up in that mindset, but after Jared and I took a step back we decided we didn’t want to get married because “everyone was doing it”. My sister started there the semester after I graduated and people thought Jared and I had broken up because we weren’t married yet…what?!?
I could write a WHOLE blog post about this, but I’ll let it rest for now.
Our kind of love is special because we support each other no matter what! There has been so many occasions where Jared and I have supported the other person and let them pursue their dreams. When I came to Jared 3 months before our wedding saying I wanted us to move to Fayetteville, AR he was all about it. When he made the decision to transition is his career from parks and recreation to fashion I was 100% behind him.
I’m a very career minded and goal oriented person, Jared understands that about me and supports me fully in further my career and achieving my goals. I couldn’t imagine being with someone that didn’t support me fully.
Our love is NOT perfect. I’m far from the perfect wife. For example, I’ve been so busy at work that when I got home I realized I forgot to lay out anything for dinner. So we had sandwiches…far from the perfect wife. But I love that Jared understands and supports me and love s me.
