When it comes to spring and summer I live in dresses, especially in the Houston heat I find them to be way more comfortable than jeans or shorts. I love casual maxi dresses because they can easily be styled for many different occasions. I prefer one to have some type of sleeve just because it makes me feel more confident. This Target dress is a total gem and it comes in several different prints/colors. Here’s a closer look at how to style a casual maxi dress with sleeves for summer.
How To Style a Casual Maxi Dress with Sleeves for Summer
First I went to approach the common misconception which is that short or petite girls can’t wear these styles of dresses. That is absolutely not correct. I’m only 5’2″ and I wear them all the time. It’s just about knowing when it’s a length you can work with and when it isn’t. Personally, I like for dresses like this to hit anywhere between mid-calf and right above my ankle bone. That’s the sweet spot to make you look taller as well as help you from not tripping over the fabric.
For this look, I really played into the blue color scheme and wanted to have accents to match. I recently splurged on another pair of these buckle shoes from Ann Mashburn (yes, I own 4 pairs now). I think the tiny floral pattern and the stripes compliment each other so nicely and from far away you can’t really tell.
To bring out more of the deeper tones of blue in the shoe pattern I thought this blue small crossbody would be perfect. I also love the texture it adds to the outfit.
I kept the jewelry simple but because the neckline is a little lower I went with my recent favorite Amazon necklace. I also think the pearls accent the strips and floral pattern perfectly.
This look is perfect for brunch, shopping, church and so much more! Swap out the flats for some sneakers and you have a new even more casual look!
