We’ve had Beau for just about a month and boy, have I learned a lot! Sweet Beau has been a wonderful addition to our family and feels like one of us. I can definitely tell he feeds off of our energy. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Cavelier King Charles Spaniels and so far so good.
Having a puppy has turned mine and Jared’s life upside down, but we’ve grown closer and really learned to work as a team! We can no longer think of just us because we have a sweet little puppy we have to take care of.
10 Things I’ve Learned From Having a Puppy for a Month
1. Patience is key
He’s just a baby, after all, he doesn’t know any better. My patience has definitely been tried over the last few weeks, but I’ve grown a lot. However, potty training might be the death of me!
2. Anything is possible with treats
Treats are literally my best friend! He gets treats for everything!
3. Coffee is a MUST
I couldn’t have picked a better time to start drinking coffee. Those 4 AM trips to go outside are rough, but coffee in the morning makes it a little better.
4. Your schedule will drastically change
Pre-puppy I could do anything during lunch or after work, but now I have put Beau first. I have to go home at lunch to let him out or come home right after work to feed him.
5. Puppies are EXPENSIVE
Goodness, between food, treats, toys, vet visits and more it’s like a small child!
6. You’ll be forced to be tidy
I swear Beau walks around with his mouth open looking for something to chew. I refuse to let him even have a chance to ruin my shoes. I was a relatively clean person before but now there can be nothing on the floor or in jumping distance.
7. Their love is unconditional
No matter what happens he loves me. Treats also help with the unconditional love!
8. Zak George is LIFE
Before we got Beau we watched so many Zak George videos on YouTube. He has soooo many good puppy training videos! I highly recommend.
9. EVERYONE wants to meet the puppy
Once word got around that I got a puppy people came out of the woodworks wanting to meet him! Since he doesn’t have all of his shots yet we are very careful to where we bring him, but he has made a trip to the office.
10. AND Everyone has an opinion
Lastly, everyone has their own opinion on what vet to go to and what food to feed him. It can be confusing, but luckily we’ve done a lot of research and feel confident in his decisions as puppy parents!
