I have a pretty hard time shopping for clothes because of my body type. I am very slender in my torso but have wider hips. Typically I am a size 0-2 in my chest and a 4 in my bottoms when it comes to dress shopping. For years, Jared’s been telling me I need to just buy things and get them altered. Honestly, I am just too cheap and lazy to go get things altered.
Why Getting Your Clothes Altered Is Worth It
Jared and I were heading to the beach and I bought several dresses to take with me. If I’m in between an XS and S I just size up and nine times out of ten it’s not an issue. Of course, both of the dresses I wanted to take with me and take photos in were too big. I finally decided I was going to get them altered and oh my goodness, this changed my wardrobe. I now want to get everything altered!
The two dresses I brought were fairly inexpensive (both under $50) and my alterations were around $40 total. One needed quite a bit of work with taking in the bodice and the straps and the other just needed a tighter elastic since it was one shoulder. Now they fit like a glove, I am going to get SO many more wears out of them.
Ugh, so Jared was right… but I am totally convinced now that I need to splurge on the alterations if needed because even though it’s more expensive, they fit better, I’ll wear them more and feel more confident in them.
My only tip is to get a recommendation from a friend or do your research before just choosing someone randomly to do alterations.
