My brother and I are both engaged, so we wanted to gift my mom with family photos of our blood family before we all start “growing up”. When we talked to my mom about it she suggested black shirts and jeans…ok 1996 called, they want their family pictures back. If not black and jeans, what to wear to family photos then? Then she moved up to 2003 suggesting jeans and white shirts. I told her I would take care of the color scheme and outfit choices.
What To Wear For Family Photos?
We wanted something muted and not super trendy. I also wanted to feel like these were all outfits we had in our closet and showed up that day and just happened to match. (Even though that’s clearly not the case.)
I immediately searched through the Design Seeds Instagram until I found a color scheme I liked. If you don’t follow this account, it has amazing color palettes of complementary and contrasting colors. Below is my initial color inspiration.
From there we searched our closets to see what each person already had. I had my purple dress, my mom had white pants and my dad had a green button-down. Then we went out to find outfits in the correct colors for the remaining family members.
Family pictures with older kids is slightly more difficult then I thought, as I searched Pinterest for pose ideas, I only found families with little kids so we just kind of had to wing it for posing.
My family is a little quirky so we didn’t want a nature background or a barn, we opted for the super cool wedding venue under construction and then moved to this fun ice cream shop with a giant chalkboard.
