Wedding receptions can be so fun, but they can also be a drag. The mood is really set by the wedding reception order of events. I’ve been to weddings where dinner isn’t served until 10 pm, which can be bad for someone who gets “hangry” like me, and I’ve been to receptions where 10 people give speeches, that’s fun and all but becomes overwhelming.
It’s also proper etiquette to not leave before the cake is cut, so people will feel obligated to stay and you don’t want to hold your friends and family too long if they aren’t night owls or have other commitments pending the time of day.
When planning our reception, I wanted it to be quick, concise and get straight to the fun things like dancing. Below is the order of our wedding reception which worked perfect for us! I also included the songs, in case you were curious.
