Outdoor Voices is a brand I’ve known about for a while and I’ve looked at their pieces several times online but I really wanted to try them on before I pulled the plug. When I was in Nashville, I had the opportunity to pop into one of their stores and I picked out quite a few things so here’s a full Outdoor Voices review.
So I just started going to the gym about a month ago, so I am NO athlete but I do like cute workout clothes
The Brand
Before we jump into the clothes, two things I knew about the brand prior to becoming a customer.
1. They have a total female boss babe!
Tyler Haney their founder is only 30 years old. “Growing up in Boulder, CO, Haney was a jock: she ran cross country, played basketball and considered going to a college where she could compete in track and field. She couldn’t shake an interest in fashion, though, and instead matriculated at New York’s famed Parsons School of Design, where she soon found a way to marry her two interests.
As part of her degree program, she created a five-piece collection of essential activewear and Outdoor Voices was born. So far, the workout apparel company’s minimalist, technical aesthetic and digital-first strategy has earned it over $8 million in venture backing, with its October led by Cambridge, MA-based General Catalyst Partners. Despite high profile investors — including Warby Parker and The Honest Company.”
2. OV prides themselves on inclusion and not photoshopping their ads.
They showcase women of all shapes, color, and sizes. I absolutely love this because unlike other athletic brands I can actually feel more confident in their clothes knowing I’m not perfect.
Outdoor Voices Review
When I think of Outdoor Voices pieces I think of their signature leggings and crop top set. This was something I knew I definitely wanted to try on. The reason I was holding out from ordering online is since it’s definitely a splurge for me I wanted to make sure I absolutely loved it.
As soon as I put on the set, I knew! It took a minute to get the sizing right for me but now I am obsessed and already thinking about what color I should get next.
The leggings hold you in and let you move without feeling constricted. I also LOVE the high waisted aspect of the leggings for an ultra-flattering look. The lines of the seams are simplistic but thoughtfully planned out for the most flattering look.
The Athena crop top is my absolute fave! Not only can I wear it on its own but I can also wear it as a sports bra. I LOVE the way it scoops in ever so slightly on the sides. It also comes down just right for showing the perfect amount of skin with the leggings.
Here’s the best part…
They don’t show sweat!! Yes, you read that right! I don’t know how they do it but this fabric doesn’t show any sweat. There’s always that concern when wearing a new legging especially in a fun color that you are going to have that embarrassing butt sweat… you know what I’m talking about. That fear is gone with Outdoor Voices! Honestly, that’s priceless. Even the tank top I bought didn’t show sweat.
And if you are feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start they have different pieces based on what activity you are doing. If you are walking your dog, they got you (literally) or if you are going to a spin class, they got you!
Women’s Rec Kit: The Rec Kit is sculpting, stays in place, and makes you feel strong. From dog walks to yoga class, The Rec Kit is your new go-to for low to mid-sweat activity.
Women’s Tech Kit: The Tech Kit will stay cool during high-sweat and high-heat workouts.
You can obviously wear them wherever for whatever but this is a very helpful starting point.
I mentioned it’s a splurge at about $85 for leggings and $45 for the crop top, but when purchasing the set together you actually get a bundle savings of $35 and they have free shipping and free returns!
I love a good skort, so I splurged and picked up the Exercise Skort in navy. I also wanted to get a tank so I could a complete outfit so I got the Sweatee Tank Top as well.
I mentioned my sizing took a minute to get right and frankly I was kind of all over the board, so below are the sizes I got for reference.
Hi-Rise 7/8 Warmup Leggings: Size Small (True to Size) – Typically a size 4 on bottom.
Athena Crop Top: Size Extra Small (True to Size) – Typically a 0-2 on my top. I like my sports bras a little tighter so I sized down.
Exercise Skort: Size Medium (Runs Small) To be honest, I had a hard time getting this over my hips since the waistband doesn’t have much give.
Sweatee Tank Top: Size Small (True to Size)
I started my Outdoor Voices collection off strong and already planning my next few purchases.

Hi, love the blog post! How do you wear your Outdoor Voices Crop? I have the OV slash back crop and was disappointed to learn it doesn’t come with any bra pads. I really like the look of the crop, but wondering how you used it without the padding.
Would be grateful for the advice. Thanks!
