Cardigans are back and better than ever this year and one of my new favorite ways to style a long cardigan is with a mini skirt. It’s perfect for this weird warm fall weather we’re all struggling with right now.
Below are a few tips and tricks on how to style a long cardigan for fall.
How To Style A Long Cardigan
1. Cardigan Length
Long cardigans come in all different shapes and sizes from hip to mid-thigh to knee and even ankle. I personally really loving the knee length this fall especially when it comes to pairing it with skirts.
I think this knee length is the perfect length to ensure that cardigan is longer than your skirt. This adds some visual interest since most of the time you see the skirts as the bottom hem in an outfit.
2. Skirt Length and Style
Skirt lengths depend, obviously this skirt is too short for the office but is perfect for nights and weekends. I do have another denim skirt that is more a straighter silhouette and hit right above the knee, much more work appropriate.
I recommend either A-Line or straight skirts when pairing with longer cardigans to cut down on the bulkiness. You don’t want to have too much extra fabric, especially on your lower half.
Denim skirts are really popular right now, but so are corduroy, suede, velvet, etc. so don’t be scared to play with different fabrics.
3. Color Combo
With a denim skirt, you have a blank canvas, I am really loving this deep maroon color right now so grabbed this cardigan, but if you have a camel color skirt pairing it with a contrasting color or one in the same color palette like an olive green would be really pretty.
4. Top
Because the skirt and cardigan can be a statement on their own I like to keep things simple under the cardigan with a tank top like I did here or with a simple pattern tee like stripes.
