Springtime in Texas is a wonderful season to enjoy the great outdoors and explore the beautiful countryside. And for antique lovers, it’s also an opportunity to visit the Round Top Antiques Show, a biannual event that attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.
A Guide to Antique Shopping in Round Top, Texas
The Round Top Antiques Show, located in the small town of Round Top, Texas, has been a staple event in the antique community since 1968. It started as a small gathering of a handful of antique dealers, but over the years, it has grown to become one of the largest and most popular antique shows in the country. It’s right in between Houston and Austin, so we like to make the 1.5-hour trip for the day!
The show takes place twice a year, in the spring and fall, and it spans over several miles along Highway 237. The spring show, which usually takes place in late March or early April, attracts vendors from all over the country and features a wide variety of antiques, including furniture, art, jewelry, and collectibles.
One of the things that make the Round Top Antiques Show so unique is the diverse range of vendors and items on display. You can find anything from 18th-century European furniture to vintage clothing and accessories, and everything in between. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting, you’ll find something to pique your interest.
I like to think of Round Top in two different ways. The first is the interior design/luxury spots and the other is what I like to call “The Fields”. These are two very different markets but both are really fun.
The more interior design-focused spots are going to be curated with higher-end pieces. These are great for finding inspiration, casually browsing, enjoying live music, grabbing a drink, etc. My favorite spots to hit up when comes to these types of tents are…
1. Blue Hills
2. The Compound
3. The Arbors
4. Bader Ranch
The Fields are a much different vibe with miles and miles of smaller tents piled high with hidden treasures aka junk! These are great for digging through, getting good deals, and finding nicknacks. It’s roughly an 11-mile stretch of tents filled with treasures. We never get to them all, but we like to park down past Glamp Inn and go until we get tired. Personally, we like to start at the nicer spots in the morning and make our way to the fields later in the day so we can end when we’re hot and sweaty. It’s also a great way to see what’s trendy, get inspiration and then find it cheaper in the fields!
If you’re planning to attend the Spring Antique Show, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, wear comfortable shoes and clothing. You’ll be doing a lot of walking and browsing, so you’ll want to be comfortable. Second, bring cash. While some dealers accept credit cards, many prefer cash or checks. There are ATMs available in town, but they can run out of money quickly during the show. With cash, it’s much easier to barter on price and get the best deal! Third, if you’re to the fields I recommend bringing a wagon or rolling cart so you can hold all your goodies without having to go back and forth to the car that’s likely a few miles away! Finally, be prepared for crowds. The Spring Antique Show draws thousands of people each year, so be patient and courteous as you navigate the crowds.
We pop over to Round Top every time the Antique Show is in town. It’s definitely doable in a day but if you are looking for a full experience I recommend grabbing a place to stay, making a girl’s weekend out of it, and going crazy! Round Top is known to be the place Chip and JoAnna Gaines shop for their goodies so hey, you might even run into them!
Overall, the Spring Antique Show in Round Top, Texas is an event that’s not to be missed for antique enthusiasts. The show offers a unique shopping experience in a charming setting, and there are plenty of other activities to enjoy as well. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just looking for a fun day out, the Spring Antique Show is sure to delight. So mark your calendar and get ready for a day of antique hunting in one of the most picturesque towns in Texas.
